hi hello!
I’m olivia :)
Some time ago, I moved into an apartment that had exactly 2 light fixtures. One in the bathroom, one pendant in the kitchen. That was all. During the summer, this was fine, but come wintertime… not so much. I needed a lamp. But lamps are expensive, and I was broke, so I decided to make one. How hard could it be?
My first lamp was rather crude, an exhaust manifold stood upright, with a single bulb sticking out of the end. But it was a lamp, & it worked! (It also taught me what happens when you wire a socket backwards: sparks)
4 years later, I’m finally getting the hang of it! I’m also quickly running out of spaces that need lamps, hence the creation of 30 Over Studios. A reference to boring an engine’s cylinders .030” (thirty) over, a task performed to rehabilitate a damaged block that would otherwise be scrap metal. It gives the engine a second chance, per se. I like this metaphor. It suits me, and my work, well. :)
